Another Saturday means another open forum on the website.
Now usually I don't get anything here, and by usually I mean ever but that does not mean I will censor you. I am giving you the opportunity, the choice is yours. Some topics in the news, the failed revolution/coup in Turkey, the horrific terrorist incident in Nice, France and of course the continued political drama in the United States. What stuck out to you this week? What would the Founding Fathers think about Pokemon Go? Imagine if it was Founding Fathers Go, I would try to catch John Jay personally but feel free to pick your own Founding Father. Anyways, light and trivial, deep and meaningful, this website is for everything and we want to hear your voice so try it out!

Reading updates and tweets about the coup in Turkey reminded me a lot of the stories my grandparents and relatives told about the Iranian coup in 1953. I always heard about the state of confusion and fear as the democratically appointed Prime Minister Mossadegh was overthrown and replaced by Mohammad Reza Shah. While the two scenerios sound similar enough, Iran's coup was successful and Turkey's wasn't. Why? One reason that strikes me the most is technology and rapid communication. I mean honestly...while Turkey's prime minister was able to flippin' FaceTime his people and call for resistance and instantly reach millions, some Iranians woke up the next day unaware that a coup even took place, hearing it on the radio while making some breakfast. So, with this in mind, will coups ever be as successful with the element of surprise compromised?

It's a double edged sword right? Because on one hand the information is out there but that allows both sides to coordinate better. In Dallas, the cops asked CNN et al to stop covering the story in the streets because the shooter was gaining information from their coverage.
