As I get older and my students inevitably get further and further removed from my youth, the answer becomes increasingly no. However, this is a rather important scene and has ultimately influenced my philosophy of teaching. Here it is.
I find it critical as an educator to try and break down walls. I don't try to give you all the answers because I'm not the Oracle, I simply want you to be able to empower yourself through asking the right questions.
Many people are going to try and sell you "their truth" much as Morpheus claims he is offering to Neo. That's not my mission at all because your experiences and your values matter. You shape your world, you "have to see it for yourself" as Morpheus tells his young charge.
I just want you to be aware of what you are using to make that creation. I want you to be able to study and reflect upon your life and the world in which you live.
I want you to discover the rabbit hole of knowledge and then follow it wherever it may lead. That is what I offer, an opportunity to critically think about the world we live in and the consequences it brings. That's not a liberal or a conservative concept, it is a human concept. We need pressure to grow, intellectually or physically.
This site is meant to bring those bright and inquisitive minds together. A place where ideas can be proposed, modified or refuted. A place where we can feel comfortable breaking down all the assumptions we make on a daily basis.
