Another Saturday means another open forum on the website.
Now usually I don't get anything here, and by usually I mean ever but that does not mean I will censor you. I am giving you the opportunity, the choice is yours. Some topics in the news, the failed revolution/coup in Turkey, the horrific terrorist incident in Nice, France and of course the continued political drama in the United States. What stuck out to you this week? What would the Founding Fathers think about Pokemon Go? Imagine if it was Founding Fathers Go, I would try to catch John Jay personally but feel free to pick your own Founding Father. Anyways, light and trivial, deep and meaningful, this website is for everything and we want to hear your voice so try it out!

Congratulations!
You survived the Fourth of July and America's 240th Birthday. Since we were all busy, I've decided to make the Open Forum today. What were some of your thoughts yesterday? Ever wonder why were are so obsessed with fireworks? Did the rain but a damper on your patriotism? Did you watch some patriot-related television? Are you surprised College Board decided to release APUSH scores today and not yesterday? It's an open forum so it's all about you and your thoughts. So share them and go 'Murica! 140 years ago, America declared its independence from Great Britain.
Now the British people have just declared independence from the European Union, leading to the resignation of Prime Minister David Cameron and reports that the end of the United Kingdom is near. Is it all an overreaction? Is this another revolution? What are they rebelling for? If so, how does it compare to what America did 140 years ago? It certainly seems far less bloody but, then again, we are not done yet. Give me your thoughts on the decision, the comparison and where we all go from here. What can we learn from all this? Open forum so let your voice be heard! Another Saturday means another opportunity to express your opinions and shape this website.
How did you like the guest article? Who else would you like to include in this project? It's officially the summer, what are your plans? Anything even remotely history related to them? For the graduates out there, how does the idea of independence sound as you are going off to college or work? It's your forum so talk about what you want! In the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson states that "among" these inalienable rights is life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
In saying among, there is the presumption that there are more natural rights than those three, even if he never articulates them. So what are they? Why would Jefferson say the word "among" and not tell us more about them? What should they be? Let me know in the comments section and enjoy your weekend! Ultimately this entire project is an experiment, not unlike the United States, and like the Founding Fathers, I am looking for brothers in arms to help me take on this difficult but worthwhile task.
Yesterday I reached out to five people, two teachers and three former students and received three positive and immediate responses. They were definitely interested but are not fully committed yet, there are logistics to work through. So while I remain cautiously optimistic about the greatness of this task, it got me thinking. Who do you want involved with this? Whose opinion do you respect? Whose intellect do you admire and envy? Let me know in the comment section and enjoy your Saturday! |
