We live in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) world, President Obama says it, Congress pays for it and educational leaders demand a drive towards problem-based learning with authenticity.
Do not get me wrong, problem-solving is a key skill, but let's not pretend that it is only in the world of math or science.
The social sciences are the context to problem-based learning. History is the grand stage in which methods and tactics have been played our for millennia. Understanding our political structures should be a prerequisite to any major policy change. It provides a picture towards moving forward.
It is important to not just study our past but reimagine it, look at it from fresh new perspectives and question some of are preconceived notions about history.
Indeed, learning is not as much about finding answers as it is asking the right questions.
Anyone can find out who the 12th President of the United States was by asking Google.
It's a lot harder to find "What is the proper role of government in securing our nation?"
"How do we create an enlightened citizenry?"
"Why are we so obsessed with zombies?"
That is what we are going to attempt to do, to look at things from new perspectives and ask questions that are not going to be easily answered.
For that we need your help. No one can pretend to be an expert on these things, it takes a discussion to deal with the problems in America, not a dialogue.
I am asking for your support on this project and creating a discourse that can drown out the distractions and really engage the masses. We are going to bring history back to life.
